Bespoke Hot Water Cylinders: What Can Be Customised?

Bespoke Hot Water Cylinders: What Can Be customused

While standard hot water cylinders offer a straightforward solution, they may not always be the best fit for every installation. At Newark Cylinders, we specialise in manufacturing bespoke hot water cylinders tailored to unique requirements. Whether you need a specific size, shape, material, or coil configuration, our expertise ensures a solution that maximises efficiency and performance. Here, we explore the key features that can be customised to suit your needs.

Dimensions, volume and shape

Heights and diameter options can be mixed and matched to create a unit which is tall and thin, short and wide, or anything in between. The shape of a product can even be customised to suit unique installation spaces, and/or ease restrictive access issues.

At Newark Cylinders, we are able to manufacture both horizontal and vertical cylinders in a range of sizes starting from 8 litres to 1500 litres.

Copper manufactured cylinders have excellent antibacterial properties

Material

Bespoke hot water cylinders can be manufactured in copper or stainless steel. Both have their pros and cons though.

For example, stainless steel can handle high pressure better than copper with the same wall thickness. However, copper is well-known for its great antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. You can find a full comparison of these materials here.

Pressure ratings

If you have an application which requires hot water working pressures which are out of the ordinary, then we can customise the construction of a cylinder to suit them. A thicker wall allows for higher pressure, and we currently work with up to 2mm thick stainless steel, or up to 5mm thick copper.

There are installations which require a higher pressure than the standard distance between the cylinder base and water lever in the header of the tank. In these instances, a bespoke cylinder can be utilised to cope with the extra water pressure.

Through our bespoke service, we can utilise multiple coils.

Single or Multiple Coil System

The coil configuration of a cylinder directly impacts the efficiency of transferring heat, especially when the cylinder is used in a heat pump or solar system. The efficiency especially increases when a multiple coil system is used.

We’re able to design systems that utilise single and multiple coils. The size of these range from 1.1m² to 6m² thickness.

Multi-heat source compatibility

If you aim to use a combination of heat sources, we can help. You can choose from solar panels, a heat pump, a wood burner, or a boiler. If your ideas are too ambitious and there isn’t enough space for the coils you want, we can suggest other options.

We stock many different-sized coils which range from 1.1m² to 3.0m². These can also be combined, either in series or in parallel, to create even larger coils.

Connection sizes and positions

The positions of flow and return connections, immersion heaters, thermostat pockets, valve connections, etc, can be specified to suit the installation’s requirements perfectly. This can minimise the repositioning of pipework, reducing labour, saving time and making future maintenance easier.

Insulation thickness & finish

The minimum thickness of insulation depends on the volume of the cylinder. Investing in extra insulation can save you money over the cylinder’s lifetime. This is a favourable, long-term option. We also offer a metallic-silver cased finish, if the aesthetics of your cylinder are important to you.

Conclusion

Choosing a bespoke hot water cylinder allows for greater flexibility in design, ensuring that your system meets specific performance, space, and efficiency requirements. Whether you need a compact cylinder for a tight space or a multi-coil system for multiple heat sources, a bespoke option ensures your cylinder is built to perform at its best. However, it is important to remember to consider the factors of both standard and bespoke cylinders when choosing a new hot water tank.
